Alex began playing piano by ear at the age of five. He badgered his parents into letting him take lessons when he was only in the first grade. Two months later, he decided he hated the lessons, but his parents made him stick with it. He studied composition with Robert Washburn at State Univ. of New York at Potsdam in 1977-78.
He has served as a pianist and singer with the Jane Hardester Singers and other Los Angeles area ensembles for several years, and has also worked with the Great American Yankee Freedom Band, as pianist for the G.A.Y. Swing Band.
Alex became the accompanist and composer-in-residence for the Los Angeles-based West Coast Singers. In his remunerative life he is a computer whiz for NASA at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena.
